Website development, under subcontract. This job required Perl, but other similar jobs have also required PHP.
The Certified General Accountants Association of BC wanted to revise their web site. For some time they had been offering a free job advertisement posting system, and they had decided to start charging for it. They asked their regular consultant, Silicon Wizardry Consulting, who in turn contracted me to do the job.
The web site had been written in Perl by a previous developer, and they wanted minimal modifications so my job was to revise the old Perl code and add some new scripts. For another part of their website, they already had online payment set up using E-xact Transactions, and they wanted to build the new system using this as well so I familiarized myself with the E-xact API, which turned out to be simple and convenient to use.
The basic job of coding was done in a week or two but since several other people were involved with the project, we spent some months testing, co-ordinating details and implementing further requests from the CGA staff. The system finally went live in late 2004.
